EMDR
-
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), developed by Francine Shapiro, is an 8-stage process proven to treat PTSD, C-PTSD, and transgenerational trauma. Initially for trauma, it is now used for various psychological issues.
-
Before starting, proper preparation is key, including creating a safe space, containment, grounding techniques, developing boundaries, and relaxation techniques tailored to the individual.
-
EMDR uses eye movements or sound/touch stimulation to desensitize and reduce emotional distress linked to certain traumatic events and replace negative thinking and feelings with positive ones, helping the nervous system heal.
-
While it works for many, EMDR may not be suitable for everyone, it can complement other therapies effectively.

Gestalt Therapy

-
Gestalt Therapy, rooted in Existential, Humanistic, and Zen philosophy, is an experiential approach that focuses on living in the present moment.
-
In Gestalt therapy, the therapist encourages clients to explore emerging sensations, emotions, thoughts, dreams, and what is alive in the session with curiosity and mindfulness.
-
Following the cycle of experience, the client learns to notice when there is a boundary disturbance and is no longer available for contact.
-
Gestalt's existentialist and egalitarian framework values the therapeutic encounter and aims for successful interactions at the contact boundary.

Dance/Movement Therapy

-
Somatic-informed dance uses the body for healing. It recognizes the potency of every movement and gesture as a gate to self-investigation, unblocking trapped energy and allowing the body to communicate its wisdom.
-
Authentic Movement, developed by Mary Whitehouse, connects with intuition, the collective unconscious, and self-exploration.
-
Body-Mind Centering® focuses on repairing early childhood wounds, sensory awareness, and developmental movement.
-
Exploring movement through somatic awareness is healing, energizing, and fun. A simple daily dance to a song can refresh the soul.

Expressive Arts Therapy

-
Embodied expressive arts therapy, research, and education focus on the wisdom of the body and art-making to gain knowledge.
-
Art-based research is a process of investigation in which the body has an intelligence that reveals through the arts a nonverbal truth that the mind is sometimes slow to grasp.
-
Art-based research is an intuitive non-cognitive improvisational, and creative act where the artistic process allows insights and questions to emerge
-
My exploration of this process extends to various articles, chapters, and recorded expressions, including choreography, storytelling, and dance performances.
